Call for Scores

The Area 9 Quartet is excited to announce that the

winner of our first inaugural Call for Scores is Ian Wiese!

Ian Wiese is a Quincy-based composer, Associate Professor of Ear Training at Berklee College of Music, and Music Theory/Composition Faculty at NEC Expanded Education. His works have been performed by Imani Winds, HYPERCUBE, Atlantic Brass Quintet, Ensemble Ipse, guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan, and many others. Wiese has won The 2022 and 2024 American Prize, the Homecoming: Return to Artsakh Competition through Music for Unity (Second Place 2024, Active Finalist 2026), the 2021 and 2023 Mu Phi Epsilon Original Composition Competition, the Area 9 Saxophone Quartet Call for Scores "New England Soundscapes," and the Delgani String Quartet "Far From Home" Call for Scores, among others.

 

Wiese holds a DMA and MM from New England Conservatory and a BM from Ithaca College, all in Composition. 

Area 9 looks forward to collaborating to Ian to premiere his work as part of our 2026-2027 season!
