Area 9
Saxophone Quartet

Based in the Greater Boston area, the Area 9 Saxophone Quartet brings audiences on a compelling musical journey that celebrates both tradition and innovation. We are deeply committed to exploring and expanding chamber repertoire for the saxophone, spanning centuries, styles and sound worlds.

Our curated programs feature classical and baroque transcriptions alongside modern contemporary compositions, jazz classics, and popular favorites. Area 9 is also a strong advocate for living music, regularly commissioning and debuting new works by contemporary composers –including Jun Feng’s “Somehow, Tango” and Michael Kosch’s “Castle in the Air.” Inspired by our commitment to the New England composition community, Area 9 recently launched our inaugural call for scores, New England Soundscapes, a multi-installation project that seeks to explore the rich and diverse history of the region through a 21st century lens.

Whether performing at the concert hall or your local community park, we strive to introduce new audiences to the remarkable versatility andexpressive depth of the saxophone quartet.
